ADSS Cymru Members Summer Festival

With the annual ADSS Cymru Spring Seminar unable to take place due to Covid restrictions, the virtual Summer Festival in July gave members and invited guests the chance to reflect on and discuss the opportunities and challenges faced by the sector, and to share the good practice that has taken place across social care in Wales over the last year. Highlights included the launch of Maethu Cymru / Foster Wales, sharing innovative practice from across the regions, an introduction from the newly-appointed Chief Social Care Officer for Wales, Albert Heaney and much more. Moving tribute to social care staff

The Summer Festival saw the first screening of a touching short video featuring a poem written by Rowenna Gane, a care worker from Wales in dedication to social care workers across our nation for their service and sacrifice throughout the  pandemic.

Disabled Living Foundation (DLF) - Person-centred assessment and advice tool AskSARA, and its role in maximising independence

DLF’s webinar features two speakers sharing information and experiences about the AskSARA self-assessment programme. AskSARA is a free online tool, run by the charity DLF that provides impartial guided advice about aids and adaptations for independent living. Melanie Poyser, Partnerships Manager at DLF provides an update on the service including sharing statistics about the public's use of the tool and trends in topics and where it fits within the provision of person-centred information as set out in the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014. Dawn Pridham, Service Manager, Adult & Community Services at Newport City Council presents her experiences as the lead for Newport’s AskSARA including insights from providing the service during the pandemic. Launch of Foster Wales

The Summer Festival saw the long-awaited launch of the Maethu Cymru / Foster Wales nationwide initiative by the Deputy Minister for Social Services, Julie Morgan MS, and introduced by the ADSS Cymru lead Head of Service for this work, Tanya Evans.
